“You can't do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width and depth.” ― H. L. Mencken

About Me scott dixon

My Background

I moved back to Norman in 2008, married the love of my life, Tiffany, in 2009 and we began raising a family here in 2010. We have two kids, Gus and Marybelle. They are active in basketball, flag football, soccer, dance, tumbling, riding bikes and climbing trees. I've been an assistant Cub Scout Leader, a soccer coach, and flag football coach. I’ve been on the Daycare Board, Missions Committee and Board of Trustees at McFarlin Memorial Methodist Church and we currently attend Victory Family Church.   I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BS in Construction Science and have a Masters Degree in Energy Management from Oklahoma City University.  I've spent the past 15 years in oilfield services and recently transitioned into pharmaceutical sales

Areas of Focus

  •  Let’s properly finish the Norman Forward projects. Let us finish those and attract more professionals to our town
  •  I’m pro business and want to look into programs that will attract businesses to our town without hurting those currently in Norman
  •  I’m pro development. One way to increase our tax collections is to have more residents living and shopping in Norman
  •  Let’s partner with the County to build the Basketball Arena in UNP to truly transform that area into an entertainment district that will draw people in from other communities to shop and dine in Norman
  •  Storm water is currently a long term issue.  I’d love to help find an equitable solution that doesn’t require Ward 8 citizens paying for our storm water solutions plus other Ward’s
  •  Freshwater is an essential City Government function that will be an issue in the near future. Let us begin working on a solution now, before it’s an emergency. The best solutions are rarely found when dealing with them in an emergency situation
  • Police and Fire are essential governmental functions, let's support them and give them the tools and resources to be world class departments
  •  I envision a partnership with Griffin Hospital and their discharge program in creating a transitional plan for patients to get  back with a family member or person/place that can support them and keep them off of Norman streets. I don’t believe we should punish the homeless but we shouldn’t promote it either

I'm running for Norman City Council to be a cheerleader for Norman while setting the long term plan and vision. Let the City Manager run the City. Focus on core functions of City Government: roads, water/sewer, trash, public safety and generating more revenue to pay for those things
